Abingdon , Md. , September 10 -- J . Vinton Schafer & Sons, Inc. was pleased to take part today in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Tawes Hall. Located on the University of Maryland , College Park campus, the building housed the performing arts program. As construction managers for the multi-phased renovation, Schafer carried out 146,220 worth of modifications /renovations, providing a modern academic facility to the Department of English while ensuring that the UMTV station and Eaton Broadcast Center (also located in building) were fully functional throughout construction. The project also included a new Satellite Central Utility Building (SCUB) which provided emergency power and chilled water to multiple buildings.

The University of Maryland English Program is a strong part of the College Park academic community. The renovation of the 50 year old Tawes building allowed the previously scattered program, over 20,000 students per year, to have a permanent residence in the center of campus. The new facility has an adequate number of offices to house the faculty, numerous classrooms and modern teaching technology.
