The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) on behalf of the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center (MPRC) and the Spring Grove Hospital Center employed J. Vinton Schafer & Sons, Inc., a Construction Management (CM) firm to assist the University in the management of the design and construction processes for the 7,600 square foot second floor, north wing renovation of Tawes Building at Spring Grove Hospital Center.
The principal objectives of this renovation is maximize use of the existing space and to provide systems upgrades (HVAC, electric, telephone/data, fire protection, etc.) as well as functional and cosmetic space upgrades to house a research program conducted by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) in conjunction with the MPRC.
The project construction budget for the upgrade is $1,300,000 and is due to complete in August 2006.
