| Overview: |
The renovations to improve the overall design and aesthetics
of the 3,800 square feet auditorium included leveling the existing
sloped floor and adding new custom rift-sawn red oak panels,
a new motorized bleacher, stage curtains, storage cabinets
and a wainscot. Additionally, new sound, security, dimming
and lighting systems were added.
The owner's number one priority was managing the schedule
and adhering to the completion date for the auditorium renovation.
They were told by others that it was "unrealistic and
unachievable." However, recognizing the importance of
the schedule, Schafer suggested a few changes in the construction
and design of the project. One such change was to replace
the structural steel and wood framing with light gage metal
framing. This and several similar Schafer ideas allowed the
project to be completed on time and under budget.
