| Overview: |
As stated in The Sun , “… the American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) has been designated by Congress as America's national museum and educational center for self-taught art.” The museum is made up of the main museum building, sculpture barn, and the historical Whiskey Barrel Warehouse. AVAM's founder, Rebecca Hoffberger realized it was time to construct the empty warehouse, and it made sense to call on a firm she worked with since she founded AVAM in 1994. Ms. Hoffberger selected J. Vinton Schafer & Sons, Inc. to restore and expand the historical Whiskey Barrel Warehouse.
The newly restored and expanded building is to be named after the social visionary Jim Rouse - The Jim Rouse Visionary Center.
Located on Key Highway, AVAM has become a part of Baltimore City's skyline. |
