A team of dedicated educators, planners, and local business owners teamed up on the commitment of successfully rebuilding the program and the facility to house the program.
The Automotive Technology Academy facility began with the demolition and renovation of a new 18,028 square foot state-of-the-art learning space. To provide temperature control, 32 rooftop units were installed. Additional work included underground utilities running up through the building, 10 above ground car lifts, 3 tire changers, and 2 computerized balancing machines.
"The students will receive laboratory and classroom training using the most modern test equipment and specialized tools..." as stated in the Career Academies, Howard County Public Schools' brochure. The new academy will provide students with nine additional career paths during their high school years. In addition, students will be eligible to receive the first part of an Industry Certification, NATEF at the end of their junior year.
The enrollment was overwhelming! Even before the final finishes were completed, the enrollment reached full capacity.
